Recent Updates!

We have some exciting updates since the last time our team posted a blog. In the past few months, here's what we've accomplished

Launched a four-pronged initiative to help combat educational inequities in computer science due to COVID-19. Hosted virtual workshops across several events, including hackathon PixelHacks V, and developed online courses in artificial intelligence and introductory app development. Initiative has reached 750+ people since launch.  Donated all proceeds of The Code Detectives: The Code Con Crisis to the Red Cross to help with COVID-19 in solidarity with first responders. $150+ donated.

Here are some pictures from our recent events!

We're excited to say that our online events were a success. Chapter Lead Karina Andersen hosted an online Intro to App Development workshop where she taught the basics of AppInventor. We also collaborated with Adithi R. of AImagination to host an Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Workshop teaching the applications and basics of AI.

One participant said, "I had no experience with coding or AI in the past, but after attending the session, I felt more knowledgeable about the topic."

Here's a photo from our events.

This weekend we were able to host several different workshops in artificial intelligence, neural art, intro to app development, all focusing on using these technologies for social good. We impacted 80+ girls through these workshops, and are excited to leave these girls empowered and more knowledgeable on these topics. Huge thank you to PixelHacks IV for having us :) Here are some pictures from the event.

Over the past three weeks, we held an app development workshop for 6th-12th graders at the Cupertino Teen Center. These students held no previous programming experience, and by the end of the workshop, were able to create their very own apps, including one that alleviates world hunger as well as an app to help with proper waste sorting. We are so proud of these amazing students who are now part of our alumni community.
