We have some exciting updates since the last time our team posted a blog. In the past few months, here's what we've accomplished
Launched a four-pronged initiative to help combat educational inequities in computer science due to COVID-19. Hosted virtual workshops across several events, including hackathon PixelHacks V, and developed online courses in artificial intelligence and introductory app development. Initiative has reached 750+ people since launch. Donated all proceeds of The Code Detectives: The Code Con Crisis to the Red Cross to help with COVID-19 in solidarity with first responders. $150+ donated.
Here are some pictures from our recent events!
We're excited to say that our online events were a success. Chapter Lead Karina Andersen hosted an online Intro to App Development workshop where she taught the basics of AppInventor. We also collaborated with Adithi R. of AImagination to host an Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Workshop teaching the applications and basics of AI.
One participant said, "I had no experience with coding or AI in the past, but after attending the session, I felt more knowledgeable about the topic."
Here's a photo from our events.

PixelHacks IV Workshops!
After a busy few months of challenge-hosting, workshop-planning, and so much more, we have some exciting updates. This weekend we were able to host several different workshops in artificial intelligence, neural art, intro to app development, all focusing on using these technologies for social good. We impacted 80+ girls through these workshops, and are excited to leave these girls empowered and more knowledgeable on these topics. Huge thank you to PixelHacks IV for having us :) Here are some pictures from the event.
GM x Ashoka Partnership
We are so excited to announce that CodeBuddies has partnered with General Motors and Ashoka as a part of their inaugural STEM for Changemaking initiative to bring CodeBuddies to more communities than ever. For our efforts, we've received a grant to fund further outreach projects as well as gained valuable insight from the 2019 Changemaking Summit in April. Thank you GM and Ashoka!

Menlo School Workshop!
We are excited to have completed our workshop at the Menlo School this weekend, alongside 200+ computer science enthusiasts! We taught young girls and youth the basics of programming in various languages, and provided guidance and feedback on what they could do to further improve their projects. Topics included speech recognition, chatbots, AI, and more!
SheHACKS Singapore Workshop
Singapore chapter lead Disha Mohta recently hosted a CodeBuddies workshop at her hackathon, SheHACKS, the first all-female high school hackathon in Singapore! Girls from grades 6-12 were able to learn about creating various apps with an emphasis on social impact through our curriculum. We are so proud of the amazing things the SheHACKS team accomplished, are thrilled our workshop was a success.
Over the past three weeks, we held an app development workshop for 6th-12th graders at the Cupertino Teen Center. These students held no previous programming experience, and by the end of the workshop, were able to create their very own apps, including one that alleviates world hunger as well as an app to help with proper waste sorting. We are so proud of these amazing students who are now part of our alumni community.
